Teddy bears and quilts - time proven sources of comfort and security for generations of children (and grown-up childen as well.) What could be be better? Blankety Bears!
ABOUT THE BEARS - The bears are non-jointed, collectible teddy bears made of 100% acrylic fur with 100% polyester stuffing. Although they have child safety eyes and are surface washable I am selling these as collectible items.
Each 18" bear is unique. I make each one individually. They come with his (or her) own special, hand-quilted patchwork quilt (approximately 20" x 20"). There are no duplicates. Each Blankety Bear is truly one-of-a-kind.
ABOUT THE QUILTS - Traditional American patchwork quilts are like picture books of history. Household objects, politics, religion, and nature had been just a
few of the sources of inspiration for the creation of many hundreds of patchwork patterns throughout the past three centuries.
Some of these old patchwork patterns look very much like the source of the design as in "Little Red Schoolhouse." More often though, it is the names
given to the patchwork designs that gave it meaning to their makers' lives. "Whig Rose," "Trail of the Covered Wagon," "Burgoyne Surrounded," "Churn Dash," "Crown of Thorns," "Jacob's Ladder," and "Eight Hands Around," are just a few of the countless names of patchwork designs that give us a glimpse into the lives of the folks who developed this uniquely American art form as we have come to know it today.
"Bear Paws" Bear
"Bear Paws" is one of the oldest traditional
patchwork patterns, probably originating in New
England.
